April Fool

I ran out the back door on Sunday morning April 1st to find that my car had inexplicably disappeared from the driveway. I frantically reviewed the weekend's events in my head "Could I have forgotten that I left it someplace else?" But no, we'd taken Peter's car the day before, and I remembered that my car had been there in the driveway when we'd gotten home that night. My mind reeled . . . "It's not possible that someone could have stolen the piece of crap, is it?!"

I called to Peter: "Honey - I have a problem. My car's not here." I should have instantly known by the sprightliness in his manner as he answered (he's not usually all that sprightly in the a.m. hours), "Are you sure? Where did you leave it?" I insisted that I was sure, and that I had left it there in the driveway where I always leave it. He said "Well, I suppose you'd better go and look for it!" As if we're on an easter egg hunt. Then it finally dawned on me what day it was, and I felt quite the sucker. A peek around the corner of the house revealed that my car had been re-parked in the space reserved for the downstairs apartment (currently unoccupied).

I'm guessing it'll be a very long time before I live that one down . . .
